Cherokee County, GA Keeps Citizens Active and Engaged with CivicRec

Cherokee County, GA (Cherokee Recreation & Parks Agency), serving about 230,000 residents and managing 21 parks and dozens of facilities, faced a paper-based registration system that limited access to programs and community engagement. To digitize activity registration and provide online self-service, Cherokee County partnered with CivicPlus and implemented CivicRec (formerly Rec1).

CivicPlus delivered a phased CivicRec rollout—starting as an internal tool and then opening online registrations to the public—enabling online sign-ups, roster and membership management, facility rentals, permits, POS at the aquatics center, and day‑camp tracking. The solution streamlined staff workflows, increased community participation (the county-run basketball program grew from 3,000 to 4,000 kids), improved roster/sign‑in management, and established a cost-effective, 14-year partnership that continues to evolve with Cherokee County’s needs.
