Case Study: Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust achieves efficient, patient-focused phlebotomy scheduling with Civica Scheduling (Civica)

A Civica Case Study

Preview of the Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust Case Study

With thousands of blood tests to be taken each year, Civica Scheduling makes it easier for clinicians and patients

Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s Luton Children and Adults Community Health Service runs a phlebotomy service that carries out thousands of blood tests each year across five-day clinics and domiciliary visits with a 20‑person team. Before implementing Civica Scheduling (formerly Malinko) in January 2020, visit allocation was manual and error‑prone—patient demand was visible in SystmOne but reassignments could take 5–30 minutes—making it hard to coordinate community and housebound patients effectively.

Civica implemented Civica Scheduling to automate home‑visit planning, sequence appointments (for example to accommodate fasting), protect "time to lab" and lunchtimes, and support lone‑working safety. As a result, Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust now schedules community visits more efficiently, handles appointment changes quickly, streamlines caseloads for its 20‑member team, and reports improved patient experience and staff confidence—clinicians say they “LOVE” Civica Scheduling.
