Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust piloted Civica Scheduling (formerly Malinko) across its Community Services to tackle long‑standing problems: labour‑intensive rostering, a limited view of capacity and demand, lack of granular data, and difficulty aligning staffing to patient need. The Trust chose Civica’s solution to complement its EMIS electronic patient record and improve how clinicians are matched to patients.
Civica deployed a three‑part solution — a scheduling engine to match clinician skills to patient need, a mobile app with intelligent route‑mapping and messaging, and a web app giving managers real‑time capacity visibility. The result was transformative workforce planning: caseloads are allocated appropriately, staff have more time for holistic care, and managers can shape staffing using demand and capacity reports. Civica Scheduling also enabled identification of care homes with high wound prevalence for targeted support, and highlighted that 40% of senior clinicians’ time had been non‑clinical, prompting recruitment of admin staff to free clinical capacity.
