Telecommunications Equipment Manufacturer - Customer Case Study

The Telecommunications Equipment Manufacturer, a top-three player in mobile systems, engaged Civica to provide in-depth technical consultancy and bring-up expertise for WinPath‑based hardware and software development. The work supported a new exchange terminal board that interworks ATM (AAL2/AAL5) and Ethernet as a sub-component of a radio base station for 2G/3G/4G, with Civica originally tasked to assist WinPath aspects, liaise with the WinPath technical sales team, and support hardware bring-up before the scope was extended to lead the hardware bring-up team and deliver initialization software, coordination, WinPath bring-up and initial traffic tests.

Civica implemented drivers (WinPath, QFALC, SUNI) on the PowerQUICC III with a server on the WinPath MIPS communicating via message queues, and used PCI mapping to expose WinPath memory to the PQ III driver. Leveraging its WDS2 WinPath evaluation board and Comet TDM framer, Civica prototyped the NP abstraction layer and traffic tests, and developed a mini driver to start bring-up before production drivers were ready (later adding interrupt and WPAPI support). Under Civica’s leadership the geographically dispersed team successfully completed the critical initial board bring-up and integration, the contract scope was extended, and the client highlighted Civica’s proactive use of evaluation boards and the mini driver for avoiding delays and reducing schedule risk.
