A Civica Case Study
The Northern Territory Department of Education, responsible for more than 34,000 students across 152 schools spread over 1.421 million km²—including many remote and Indigenous communities—needed to replace a decade‑old decentralised client/server student management system with a modern, centrally managed solution. In 2012 the Department partnered with Civica to deploy a next‑generation, web‑delivered school management system capable of supporting highly mobile populations and schools in very remote locations.
Civica delivered a staged rollout of its school management solution, including Civica’s Central Person Technology to improve matching and data accuracy, and integrated third‑party systems while enabling the Department to assume implementation responsibility after the first 80 schools. The program ran on budget with minimal disruption, reached 134 primary schools by March 2015 and now supports over 150 schools and more than 1,200 concurrent users, centrally managing records for 34,000+ students and reducing ICT overheads and staff workload.
