Midlands and Lancashire CSU exceed their recruiting targets and delivery using Trac

Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit (MLCSU), which supports more than 20 CCGs and NHS organisations and employs 1,750+ staff, faced a scaling challenge: recruitment relied on NHS Jobs and spreadsheets, producing slow, manual candidate journeys and an unsustainable process as the organisation grew. To modernise and reduce time to hire, they selected Civica’s Trac agile recruitment software.

Civica implemented Trac to automate shortlisting, integrate with ESR, jobs.nhs.uk and eDBS, and enable a bank of temporary staff; the 8‑person recruitment team onboarded additional NHS organisations and supported COVID‑19 immunisation projects with little headcount increase. The results include an improved time‑to‑hire target from 57 to an average of 44 days (previously estimated at 75 days for MLCSU and 83 days for CCGs), a reduction in time from unconditional offer from 27 to 15 days, and faster, more scalable recruitment and better applicant experience.
