Managed Services helping Peter Moyes school deliver on IT strategy

Peter Moyes Anglican Community School, an Anglican Schools Commission campus educating over 1,600 students north of Perth, faced the challenge of delivering a reliably “always‑connected” learning environment across a 100,000+ m² campus with more than 1,300 devices, 25 virtual servers and growing BYOD requirements. Civica, the school’s managed service provider since 2012 and maintainer of the Maze and Civica iWise platforms, was engaged to address chronic wireless interference, frequent connection dropouts and the logistics of provisioning hundreds of student and staff devices each year.

Civica implemented a unified wired/wireless architecture with four on‑site staff, deploying dual‑band access points (100+ Cisco 3700 APs) and two Cisco 5508 controllers, tuning client criteria and applying noise‑mitigation techniques (including new AP locations, roaming optimisation, storm control, coverage‑hole detection and beamforming). The upgrades raised wireless throughput from routinely ~1 Mbps during interference to data rates up to 40 Mbps, support around 600 concurrent wireless sessions, enabled seamless roaming for tablets and AV devices, and streamlined device rollout (≈500 new student devices per year) and a 3,000–4,000‑request help desk with a more proactive fault‑interception approach driven by Civica.
