Laying the foundations for high-quality Business Intelligence reporting at DAS

DAS, the UK’s leading legal expenses insurance company, needed to improve its Business Intelligence capability to create a single view of the truth and raise data quality for reliable reporting. It engaged Civica to carry out a technology appraisal and deliver the BI foundations; Civica recommended Microsoft SQL Server with SSIS and IBM Cognos, and provided specialist BI services including architects, developers, its ETL framework and training.

Civica designed and built a Kimball-modelled proof-of-concept Data Warehouse in a three-month timebox, set up ETL, loaded real DAS data, and supplied and mentored a combined Civica–DAS delivery team while upskilling DAS staff (including three junior developers) and supporting recruitment of an in-house technical lead. As a result Civica removed departmental data silos to create a single view, enabled showcase reports and dashboards, reduced manual data-matching effort, accelerated insight generation and delivered foundations DAS can extend in-house — while saving on external training costs.
