A Civica Case Study

Helping the College of Policing to share and collaborate across 90 police organisations

The College of Policing faced a challenge to break down knowledge silos across the UK policing community by consolidating content from around 70 intranets and enabling collaboration across 90 organisations, including all 43 police forces. Civica was engaged to deliver POLKA (Police Online Knowledge Area), implementing EPiServer CMS with the Relate social add-on and integrating the MindTouch wiki to create a secure, user-friendly collaboration platform.

Civica configured and extended the platform, migrated existing intranets, integrated single sign‑on and RESTRICTED‑level document security, and delivered search, taxonomy, profiles, blogs and wiki collaboration through iterative four-week sprints. The result: POLKA is used by more than 61,000 registered users across 90 organisations, reduced duplicated effort and costs, is formally accredited to RESTRICTED, serves as a principal information distribution platform for policing, and was runner-up in The Guardian Public Services Awards 2012.
