Case Study: Gympie Regional Council achieves a streamlined general ledger and improved reporting with Civica Authority

A Civica Case Study

Gympie Regional Council renovating their digital infrastructure with Civica Authority

Gympie Regional Council, a local government organisation in southeast Queensland with about 500 staff across 31 sites, needed to improve data quality and availability by rebuilding its General Ledger in preparation for an Authority upgrade. The council worked with Civica and its Authority software (including financial and payroll modules and Authority work orders) after health checks revealed misaligned processes, bloated account structures and unreliable reporting.

Civica conducted module health checks, recommended and executed a GL rewrite, introduced job costing and new financial reporting tools, and helped re-engineer business processes. As a result, Gympie Regional Council streamlined GL master accounts from over 4,000 to under 200, cut GL resource codes from over 100,000 to less than 3,100, reduced the chart of accounts from 3,500+ pages to under 100 pages, improved job-cost reporting and data-driven decision making, and completed the project on time and within budget.
