Easy online access to planning applications for Waverley’s residents

Waverley Borough Council, serving a mainly rural population of 123,300 and handling around 2,500 planning applications a year, needed a simpler, 24/7 way for residents and officers to view and comment on planning information without phoning, writing or visiting council offices. To meet that need the council worked with Civica to deploy the Digital360 Portal for Planning as a secure, mobile-friendly front end to its planning service.

Civica implemented the Digital360 Portal for Planning integrated with Waverley’s back‑office system, adding intuitive features like a measuring tool, document filtering and online commenting with workflow moderation. The portal cut comment publication time from five days to 24 hours, reduced avoidable contact, eliminated most printed packs to 21 parish/town councils (saving postage and roughly one staff‑week of admin), supported paperlight and archive reduction, met GDPR/Cyber Essentials/PSN standards, and delivered tangible cost and operational efficiencies while improving resident satisfaction.
