Case Study: East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure achieves improved, more accessible community library services with Civica's Spydus

Deploying cloud library management software as part of a new consortium-led approach

East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure joined the Scottish Consortium of Public Libraries (SCoPL) to modernise and digitise its services and improve outreach and service continuity, particularly during COVID-19. To achieve this it adopted Spydus, the cloud library management system provided by Civica, to automate public access, event bookings, cataloguing and stock rotation.

Civica implemented Spydus across the consortium, giving East Renfrewshire flexible, remote staff access, a seamless customer journey between physical and digital services, and the advantages of shared advice and joint procurement. The change linked the authority with 11 consortium members and access to more than 3.5 million resources (supporting around 1.85 million people and over 66% of Scottish citizens), reduced costs through collective buying, and kept library administration operating during closures.
