A Civica Case Study
The Highland Council faced a urgent challenge during COVID-19: Environmental Health Officers needed to quickly monitor and manage new risks from reopening retail and hospitality while working remotely for the safety of 240,000 citizens. Reliance on slow, manual Excel spreadsheets caused inaccuracies, duplication and delayed response. Civica was engaged, using its Environmental Health case management software to address these issues.
Civica enabled the team to create a remote-inspection questionnaire in two hours, allowing officers to collect improved data intelligence on around 70 retail and hospitality outlets spanning 25,000 sqm and to deliver remote inspections that saved 1.5 days of resource time. By providing a single, live source of data, Civica reduced administration and duplication, let managers see progress across a wide geography, and supported proactive analysis for other sites (eg caravan sites), helping prioritise support where it was needed most.
