Delivering greater costing insights for Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, which provides a wide range of community services, faced limited costing visibility that prevented drill-down below key service lines. To tackle this, the Trust partnered with Civica and implemented Civica's CostMaster to drive costing calculations from the bottom up using service contact times recorded on electronic clinical systems.

Civica worked with the Trust’s Costing and Informatics teams to redesign and automate activity data feeds, creating a stable, repeatable dataset and a leaner data structure. As a result, 98% of services—covering £90m—can now be costed at patient and clinician level, Power BI dashboards quickly present insights to clinicians and managers, and the Trust can identify cost variation, inform workforce planning, improve patient pathways and support new service commissioning.
