Case Study: University of Roehampton achieves £4.18m IT cost savings over 10 years with Civica cloud migration to Microsoft Azure and Office 365

Cloud drives cost savings and innovation at the University of Roehampton

The University of Roehampton faced an ageing, hard-to-manage IT estate and a choice between continuing £500,000 pa hardware refreshes or moving to the cloud. Working with Civica, the university used a Civica Cloud Readiness Assessment and consultancy to evaluate options and build a business case for migrating applications and services to Microsoft Azure and adopting Office 365.

Civica supported a phased migration to Microsoft Azure and Office 365 and delivered ongoing Civica Cloud Optimisation, which streamlined apps, cut server numbers from 350 to 235 (about one-third), and moved ~12,000 students and ~1,400 staff to Office 365 (13,400 users). The project is projected to save £4.18m on IT costs over 10 years, realised an additional £50,000 in optimisation savings and a 35% ROI on the Civica Cloud Optimisation engagement, and freed the IT team to focus on resilience, security and innovation.
