Civica transforms costing efficiency and engagement at NCIC

North Cumbria Integrated Care, an NHS Foundation Trust serving around 500,000 people with over 80 services and a £460m cost base, was struggling with a three-person Costing team overwhelmed by manual Excel processes and limited use of Patient Level Information and Costing data. They engaged Civica and chose Civica’s ProAuto alongside Power BI and mapping functionality to automate processing and create more flexible, reliable reports.

Civica implemented ProAuto to run overnight calculations, linked the costing model into Power BI dashboards, and built visual reports (including frequent-attender and mapping reports) to engage multiple health organisations. The change more than halved report processing time, made metrics easy to update, helped identify a £6.8m A&E opportunity, and is driving cross-organisational conversations to improve patient pathways and resource use.
