Civica designs and delivers highly-rated mobile banking app for Nationwide Building Society

Nationwide, the world’s largest building society, needed a modern, secure and user-friendly smartphone banking app that would support a growing variety of devices without ongoing multi-platform recoding, minimise mobile data usage and integrate with its back-end systems. To meet this challenge Nationwide commissioned Civica to design and build iPhone and Android apps using a user-centred approach.

Civica delivered a hybrid HTML5 “write once, deploy anywhere” mobile banking app (with SASS for consistent styling and a CMS for targeted messaging), balancing local storage and server calls to improve performance and limit data usage while maintaining strong security. The result is the highest-rated UK banking app on the App Store and Google Play, with 1 million downloads and over 500,000 registered users, a consistent cross-platform experience and a future-proof codebase that cuts ongoing development cost and risk.
