Civica boosts efficiency and effectiveness at Fife College with integrated MIS solution, REMS

Fife College, formed in 2013 from the merger of three institutions and serving around 20,000 students, faced fragmented systems—two separate MIS platforms plus multiple bolt-on applications—and the complexity of managing student records, timetables and means-tested funding (around £7m annually) while meeting Scottish FE compliance. To address this, the college selected Civica’s REMS as its integrated MIS.

Civica implemented REMS to consolidate data into a single student view, provide a student portal and role-based staff access, and deliver built-in reporting and auditing. The solution eliminated multiple applications, supports roughly 400–500 staff users annually and thousands of students via the portal, sped upgrades from week-long outages to a few hours, and improved efficiency and compliance—freeing staff time and enabling better resource allocation.
