Webex keeps Irish nonprofit connected with cloud calling and more

Galway Simon Community is a Galway-based nonprofit that supports people who are homeless or at risk through clinics, drop-in services, housing and charity shops across multiple sites. Coordinating staff, volunteers and clients across locations — and shifting to remote/hybrid work during COVID-19 — created communication challenges, especially given the organization has no dedicated IT department.

With donated Cisco phones and Webex Calling plus the Webex App (implemented by Cisco and partner PlanNet21 with donated licenses), Galway Simon adopted cloud calling, messaging and video conferencing. Staff can take calls on any device, use persistent chats and file sharing, and coordinate faster for major campaigns like the Sleep Out for Simon; the solution reduced email fatigue, improved collaboration, enabled plans for livestreamed events and virtual outreach, and proved easy to manage without a large IT team.
