Shawnee Mission School District - Customer Case Study

Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD), a Kansas K–12 district serving 27,500 students, launched a one-to-one digital learning initiative in 2014, issuing iPads and MacBooks to students and teachers. Rapid device growth exposed a fragmented security and management environment—multiple tools, limited visibility, frequent malware issues (about three reimaged devices per day) and obstacles to reliable teacher–student collaboration.

SMSD implemented Cisco Enterprise License Agreements for collaboration and security—bringing together Cisco WebEx, Spark, meeting solutions and integrated security (Firepower, AMP, ISE, web security appliances) with threat intelligence from Cisco Talos. The unified platform simplified management, cut malware incidents to roughly one report per month, improved classroom reliability and collaboration, increased attendance and reduced behavior problems, and enabled secure remote engagement for students and parents.
