Opening Up Higher Education with Collaboration Technology

San José State University, a large public university in the heart of Silicon Valley and a leading supplier of engineering, computer science, and business graduates, wanted to build on early successes with virtual lectures, asynchronous learning, and international partnerships. The challenge was to scale collaboration technologies across programs and locations to improve access, boost engagement, and deepen global and industry connections.

SJSU deployed Cisco WebEx and integrated video-conferencing and lecture-capture tools to support synchronous and asynchronous learning, mobile access, co‑teaching, guest critiques from global agencies, and remote teacher training. The result was higher attendance and improved course performance, richer learning modalities, reduced travel costs, expanded programs in Vietnam, China and Europe, stronger industry engagement, and contributing growth in enrollment.
