Saipem, an Eni subsidiary with about 50,000 employees, works in engineering, construction and drilling across roughly 200 often remote and infrastructure-poor sites worldwide. The company needed more reliable, real‑time communication to safeguard health and safety, speed project delivery, reduce operational costs, and support staff retention and training.

Saipem deployed a Cisco collaboration architecture — a resilient WAN with Catalyst switches, ISRs and security appliances, wireless infrastructure, 50 Unified Communications Manager clusters, ~300 TelePresence endpoints, Cisco WebEx and IP softphones, hosted on Nexus and UCS hardware and managed with BT and local partners. The rollout cut travel expenses, raised employee satisfaction and safety, lowered IT helpdesk costs by enabling rapid remote troubleshooting, and increased productivity across operations and HR.
