The National Rugby League (NRL), Australia’s top professional rugby league, faced a major communications challenge after relocating its Sydney headquarters and growing from 80 to 600 staff. The league needed to replace an aging analog phone system, support a highly mobile workforce across 12 branch offices and 16 clubs, and launch an outbound contact center to increase membership and fan engagement.
Working with partner Kytec, the NRL deployed a Cisco unified communications solution — including Business Edition 6000, TelePresence and a packaged contact center with Cisco Finesse and Jabber — to provide consistent, secure collaboration across offices and devices. The contact center hit its 1-year membership goal of +25% in three months and achieved a 40% increase by year‑end, doubled agent staffing, connected all clubs for collaboration, enabled HD remote hearings and richer fan video experiences, and established a scalable platform for future growth.
