Mobile video consultations take expert care directly to the patient to save critical minutes

Lee Memorial Health System, a large healthcare provider in North Fort Myers, Florida, needed to expand timely stroke care across its four acute hospitals and two specialty centers. With a world-class neurology team but geographically dispersed patients and on-call physicians, the system faced the challenge of rapidly connecting clinicians to emergency patients and to up-to-date CT scans and electronic medical records to accelerate diagnosis and treatment.

Lee Memorial deployed mobile telestroke carts and Cisco collaboration, wireless, and networking technologies so remote neurologists can view live video, CT images and EMR data from anywhere. The solution cut time-to-diagnosis and treatment by 10–45 minutes, doubled typical direct doctor–patient consultation time (to 10–15 minutes), reduced on-call travel and costs, and increased specialist access and overall patient experience.
