A Webex by Cisco Case Study
The University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, which serves about 11,500 largely nontraditional, first‑generation, international, veteran, and disability‑service students, needed a way to deliver an inclusive, flexible education that met widely varying needs—both during the pandemic and beyond. The challenge was providing consistent access to classes, orientations, advising, and extracurriculars without forcing a one‑size‑fits‑all approach.
UW–Whitewater standardized on Webex collaboration tools—adding video‑enabled classrooms, Webex Assistant for live transcription/captions, Slido for polling/Q&A, Webex Webinars and messaging, and robust support for asynchronous courses—so students could participate in hybrid, virtual, or in‑person formats. The result was improved accessibility, stronger engagement (especially for international and working students), a successful hybrid SOAR orientation model, and continued recognition for serving nontraditional students and students with disabilities.
