Shopify, a fast-growing commerce platform that doubled its engineering team from 60 to 130, needed a dependable, affordable CI solution to preserve its test-driven and continuous-deployment culture while scaling development. The team required a system that could handle increasing build volume, reduce maintenance overhead, and keep productivity high as projects and releases multiplied.

Shopify adopted CircleCI after a short trial because of its easy GitHub integration, scalable build containers and parallelism, REST API, and customizable build access. Using CircleCI (and Capistrano) plus a custom “Ship It” deployment tool, Shopify now runs faster test suites, merges ~300 pull requests and deploys ~100 times per week, lets developers work without running local tests, and maintains an agile, master-branch workflow.
