Orchid: Sentara Nurse Workflow Implementation of a 120-day Orchid pilot

Sentara Healthcare, a 160-bed urban hospital, sought to advance the triple aim—improving patient experience, reducing costs, and managing population health—while explicitly prioritizing staff satisfaction. To optimize nurse workflow and streamline rounding, Sentara partnered with CipherHealth to pilot the Orchid nurse rounding solution and assess its impact on efficiency, accountability, and issue resolution.

CipherHealth implemented Orchid and Sentara surveyed nurses before launch, at 30 days, and at 120 days; after 120 days nurses reported a 56% improvement in effective issue resolution and a 55% increase in satisfaction with rounding, with all survey categories exceeding 3.5 out of 5. The pilot completed 2,655 rounds, showed 100% of survey categories improved, and prompted Sentara to adopt Orchid system-wide.
