Orchid: Centegra – McHenry Hospital turned Increasing HCAHPS participation with Orchid

Centegra- McHenry Hospital, a 173‑bed suburban hospital, struggled with low HCAHPS survey participation that limited visibility into patient experience and threatened quality rankings and reimbursements. To address this, Centegra- McHenry Hospital partnered with CipherHealth and implemented Orchid (Nurse Manager Rounding) to improve care coordination and prompt patient feedback.

CipherHealth’s Orchid digital rounding was used to standardize bedside conversations and five months after launch Centegra- McHenry Hospital saw a 27% increase in HCAHPS returns (from 484 to 615). After adding a single education question to the rounding script, another 55% increase followed, bringing responses to 953 and a cumulative 100% increase within ten months; the new question was used in 4,045 rounds to drive these gains.
