Building Picture-Perfect Cemetery Maps With Drone Imagery

St. Francis Borgia Cemetery, which has served parishioners in Cedarburg, Wisconsin for generations, wanted to create a digital map that reflected the cemetery’s history and natural beauty while improving record accuracy. Using CIMS cemetery software, the team set out to confirm records, identify usable spaces, and update its maps after uncovering gaps in a historic three-acre section of the grounds.

CIMS helped survey and map the historic area, identify GPS coordinates for unknown burials, and then use drone imagery to capture high-resolution orthophotos of the full 12-acre cemetery for the CIMS Platinum website. The result was a more accurate, interactive online map that made it easier to locate graves and show available plots remotely, while also highlighting the cemetery’s autumn landscape and improving day-to-day cemetery management.
