Old Mutual, a major South African life assurance and retirement-funding provider, supports more than 27,000 internal customers with a 1,100-strong IT organisation. The company needed a more cost-effective, scalable IT service management solution—its previous named-user licensing model was expensive and didn’t match actual concurrent usage—while also improving incident, change and security processes across a complex global estate.

Old Mutual selected Cherwell for its concurrent-user licensing and flexible platform. The rollout delivered expected cost savings within 18 months, self-service drag-and-drop dashboards for each service team, and a bespoke IT security module handling about 60 security processes to meet audit requirements. Automation tied to the federated CMDB streamlined request lifecycles and troubleshooting, and phased implementation with partner Adaptive Dynamics is enabling expansion to other departments and roughly 10,000 additional managed devices.
