Ministry of Defence secures 350,000 records and 20,000 daily consultations with CGI

The UK's Ministry of Defence (MOD) required a centralized electronic medical and dental records system to replace its legacy paper and disparate digital systems across hundreds of global facilities. The challenge was to create a secure, accessible system for any military location, including operational theatres and ships at sea, to improve patient care and enable data sharing. CGI was selected to implement this critical system, adapting the EMIS PCS product for military use.

CGI hosted the solution in its secure data centre and rolled it out to MOD facilities worldwide, including developing a deployed version for ships and operational areas. The results include over 350,000 centralized records used in up to 20,000 daily consultations by 2,500 users. The system has transformed care by providing real-time, global access to records, enabling faster and more accurate treatment for personnel, and giving senior staff improved management information. CGI successfully delivered a program that went beyond IT implementation to drive significant business change and process improvement for the MOD.
