MDR unifies content management across 5 sites with CGI

The customer, MDR, a member of the German ARD Group, sought to improve its cross-media content playout across its TV, radio, and online editorial departments. The challenge was to replace multiple legacy systems with a straightforward, unified solution for exchanging content and managing news production across five regional locations, which required numerous interfaces with other systems like radio production. Vendor CGI was tasked with implementing a new system to support joint planning and overhaul royalty documentation.

CGI implemented its OpenMedia solution, working closely with MDR to develop a uniform data model and a central system called "ReSy." This integrated editorial topic planning with documentation requirements and introduced a unique method for tracking content as both a "work" and a "publication." The solution included specialized interfaces for data migration and permanent exchange with legacy systems, plus web-based tools for remote access. As a result, CGI's OpenMedia revolutionized MDR's broadcast editorial content management, bringing complete synchronicity to all departments across its five broadcasting centers.
