A CGI Case Study
The UK Home Office faced the challenge of integrating disparate intelligence data from over 200 different databases across 43 autonomous police forces and national agencies. This was in response to the Bichard Inquiry's recommendation for improved information sharing. The challenge involved standardizing incompatible data formats and ensuring the system was completely secure. CGI was engaged to help develop and deliver what became the Police National Database (PND).
CGI implemented a solution using a specially adapted program to automatically convert and standardize the disparate data for the PND. This created a single, searchable database with an intelligent search function, hosted in a secure data center. The results were immediate, with intelligence checks that previously took weeks now taking minutes. This led to the rapid identification of cross-force criminal activity and enhanced public safety. The system supports 12,000 registered users.
