EDPR controls 6,000 turbines across 300 wind farms with CGI

EDP, a major Portuguese utility and global renewable energy leader, faced the challenge of modernizing its operations and IT infrastructure to adapt to future energy trends and generate significant cost savings. They partnered with vendor CGI to implement and evolve digital capabilities across mission-critical areas, including a transformative smart grid project called InovGrid.

CGI defined the requirements for the InovGrid solution and delivered its Sm@rtering advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) software. This implementation included designing new business processes and a smart grid control room. The project resulted in the rollout of over one million smart meters, improved energy efficiency, faster response times, and easier integration of renewable sources. Separately, for subsidiary EDPR, CGI delivered a digital Renewables Management System that controls over 6,000 turbines, decreasing downtime and maintenance costs while improving remote control and asset management.
