City of Turku uses CGI’s video analytics to support 3 smart city use cases

The City of Turku, Finland, sought to improve citizen wellbeing and city competitiveness as part of its "Smart and Wise Turku" strategic initiative. A key goal was to enhance urban safety and security by gaining better insights from city data. The city partnered with vendor CGI to explore the application of advanced video analytics to address this challenge.

CGI collaborated with the city through a series of co-creation workshops to identify high-value use cases for video analytics. The solution envisioned by CGI involved using computer vision and machine learning for real-time traffic visualization, calculating traffic volumes, and analyzing crowd demographics. This approach was designed to increase safety, improve traffic flow, and aid in city planning.
