Vodafone, a global mobile network operator serving roughly 450 million customers, wanted to launch a revolutionary mobile wallet for the European market that simplified user setup and delivered fast, secure payments. To achieve this, Vodafone partnered with Carta Worldwide and used Carta’s tokenization platform for tokenization provisioning, processing and processing mapping.

Carta Worldwide built the wallet solution combining tokenization and NFC SIM technology so customers could add bank cards to the Vodafone Wallet app (card aliases stored on the Vodafone NFC SIM), confirm ownership via Verified by Visa, tap to pay at contactless terminals and review transaction history on Android phones. Carta Worldwide provisioned, processed and enabled transaction mapping, enabling a rollout to five major European markets in Q2 2015, delivering a fast, secure service developed in record time and ready for Vodafone’s large customer base.
