Telefónica, a major global telecommunications company, sought to create a competitive, scalable, and reliable public cloud storage service for businesses in Spain and Latin America. Their challenge was to find a future-proof, software-defined storage solution that could run on commodity hardware and support key functionalities like multitenancy, fault tolerance, and compatibility with Amazon's S3 API. To address this, they selected object-based storage software from vendor Caringo.

Caringo's Swarm software provided the foundation for Telefónica's Cloud Storage offering, delivering the required scalability, data protection features, and S3 API support. The solution was deployed on commodity hardware in Telefónica's highly available datacenter. As a result, Telefónica launched a secure, pay-as-you-go service that is expected to grow from 400TB to 1PB of capacity. Caringo's technology enables Telefónica to efficiently scale its service globally and target significant growth in both the enterprise and SMB markets.
