A CarbonCloud Case Study
Färsodlarna, a Swedish food brand producing plant-based mince, sought to address the high climate impact of traditional minced beef. Their challenge was to offer a delicious, locally-produced alternative to imported soy-based options, making it easy for consumers to make a more sustainable choice. To quantify and communicate this impact, they partnered with the vendor CarbonCloud to use its climate footprint calculation service.
Using CarbonCloud, Färsodlarna was able to measure and showcase the low climate footprint of its product, which is only 0.87 kg CO2e per kilo. The solution confirmed that their simple, local production process with legumes like sweet lupine was highly effective. The measurable result is that switching to their product saves 11.2 kg CO2e per meal compared to beef, equating to an 88 km car drive. As a result of this clear climate messaging, Färsodlarna's products are now available in over 700 grocery stores across Sweden.
