A Capita One Case Study
North Ayrshire Libraries, part of North Ayrshire Council, needed a better way to manage stock takes across 17 branch libraries, nine secondary school libraries and two mobile libraries. Their existing process was manual, time-consuming and prone to errors, relying on multiple spreadsheets and section-by-section checks that made a full, accurate stock take difficult. They turned to Capita One and its web-based staff interface, Soprano, for help.
Capita One implemented Soprano’s Stock Management module, allowing library staff to scan items directly at the shelves and have the system compare results in real time with the LMS. This removed the need for manual matching, improved accuracy, and enabled North Ayrshire Libraries to complete its first full stock take across all libraries at once. The largest library’s stock take was cut from weeks to just five days, while central staff regained time for other tasks and customer service improved through more reliable catalogue data.
