The London Borough of Bexley faced the challenge of reviewing its single person council tax discounts to eradicate fraud and recover vital revenue, but needed a solution that was efficient and would not burden its own staff. To meet this challenge, the council worked with vendor Capita One on a fully-managed review service utilizing Equifax data.
Capita implemented a three-stage review process using credit reference data and its Voice Risk Analysis technology to identify and investigate fraudulent claims. This effort removed 2,036 discounts, generating £1.2 million in revenue for Bexley and increasing its council tax base to keep future costs low for citizens. Capita performed this service on a risk-and-reward basis, only charging for successfully removed discounts.
