East Sussex County Council needed a more effective, low-resource way to review single person discount (SPD) claims across the county and reduce fraud without adding pressure to existing teams. Working with Capita One, the council sought to ensure only eligible residents received the discount, maximise council tax revenue, and keep costs down for taxpayers.

Capita One delivered a fully managed SPD claimant review using data intelligence, targeted customer mailings, and voice risk analysis where required. Across 53,449 cases reviewed, 2,995 fraudulent claims were removed, saving East Sussex County Council and its partner authorities £938,000 and generating an estimated £1.7 million in potential additional revenue overall, while also reducing fraud by 5.7% and improving record accuracy.
