Calderdale Council Raising educational attainment for children in care

Calderdale Council, working through its Virtual School for 259 children in care across 96 schools, needed a better way to manage rapidly changing attainment, attendance and exclusion data. Capita One’s Virtual Schools Service package was chosen to replace spreadsheets and multiple software tools, helping staff spend less time on administration and more time supporting vulnerable pupils.

With Capita One, Calderdale Council gained a single, up-to-date view of each child’s progress, school history and background, making it easier to spot concerns early and target interventions more effectively. The council says it is saving a day a week on chasing data, has improved decision-making, and its Virtual School was rated more favourably by Ofsted as a result of the insight and actions enabled by the system.
