Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, a long-time customer of Capita One’s One Revenues and Benefits software, needed a better way to manage the financial impact of business rates changes across more than 6,500 hereditaments. When Capita One launched its Business Rates Retention Scheme analysis tool, Barnsley saw an opportunity to improve financial planning and monitoring.

Capita One implemented the BRRS analysis tool to give Barnsley greater flexibility to interrogate transactional data, track appeals, and assess the effect of new builds and changes in rateable value. The council says the tool has significantly reduced the workload for less experienced staff, exports data directly to Excel, and helps estimate success rates and potential financial impact, supporting more confident reporting and better financial decision-making.
