Renesas faced increasing complexity in its microcontroller unit designs, where manual performance verification of interconnects was creating a bottleneck. The lengthy process of creating testbenches and analyzing data, which could take 22 days for performance analysis, hampered their ability to meet tight time-to-market schedules. To address this, Renesas turned to vendor Cadence Design Systems for a solution.

Cadence provided its Interconnect Workbench, vManager Verification Management, and Palladium Z1 Enterprise Emulation Platform. This integrated solution automated testbench generation and enabled early, cycle-accurate performance analysis. The results were substantial: performance analysis time was reduced from 22 days to 9 days, and verification execution speed improved by 250x, cutting a 50-hour simulation to 12 minutes of emulation. Cadence's tools allowed Renesas to identify bottlenecks earlier and achieve performance goals faster.
