A Cadence Design Systems Case Study
Melexis, a Belgium‑based developer of mixed‑signal semiconductor and sensor IC systems for automotive applications, faced growing verification challenges as embedded software became central to its highly integrated single‑chip sensors. Engineers were simulating hardware and software independently with little visibility into the compiled embedded code, causing late discovery of bugs across mechanical, magnetic, analog and software domains and driving the need for a higher‑level co‑validation methodology.
Melexis adopted Cadence’s Incisive Enterprise Simulator with the Incisive Software Extensions embedded software trace, SimVision Debug and a SystemVerilog transaction‑level “golden” model to create a unified virtual testbench for hardware/software co‑debug and analog/mixed‑signal simulation. The approach enabled early bug detection and faster system integration, delivering a 15% reduction in IC development time on a nine‑month cycle, roughly 200× faster simulation versus RTL, fewer redesigns (saving a metal change) and better collaboration between analog and software teams.
