A BroadSoft Case Study
National Laboratory, a 43-square-mile high-tech campus with more than 10,000 employees and contractors, was running communications on a 1980s-vintage TDM telco switch that occupied an entire floor and required roughly 20 engineers to maintain. Seeking a modern, interoperable VoIP approach that would work with its supercomputing network and many home-grown applications, the Lab engaged BroadSoft to design a private cloud solution using the BroadSoft BroadWorks platform.
BroadSoft implemented a private-cloud BroadWorks deployment (with Session Border Controllers, TDM/SIP gateways and IP/secure handsets) to replace the legacy switch. The BroadSoft solution delivered measurable results: several million dollars in annual cost savings, a reduced hardware footprint from a full floor to two racks, lower telephony support demands, stronger communications security via the supercomputing network, and a standards-based, hardware-agnostic platform that gives the Lab greater flexibility.
