Montgomery College Creates a Connected Campus by Moving Communications to the Cloud

Montgomery College, Maryland’s premier community college serving nearly 60,000 students across multiple campuses and workforce development centers, faced common higher-education communications challenges: administrators and faculty working remotely, tech-savvy students expecting seamless multi-device access, and aging, inflexible on-premises phone systems. To modernize and build a “connected campus,” the college selected a BroadSoft-powered cloud communication and collaboration solution (hosted by Atlantech Online) to replace its disparate legacy platforms.

BroadSoft’s hosted solution delivered a cloud-based PBX with call center features, HD voice and video conferencing, instant messaging and presence, desktop sharing, and online collaborative workspaces, while preserving investments in existing analog phones and the college’s five-digit dial plan during transition. The deployment enabled easy scaling for new locations, centralized web-based management for real-time moves/adds/changes, improved remote and mobile productivity, and richer collaboration and student–faculty communication—allowing Montgomery College to smoothly transition from a legacy PBX and establish a next-generation connected campus powered by BroadSoft.
