How Canva’s Email Strategy Increases User Engagement

Canva, the global online graphic design platform, faced the challenge of sending timely, relevant emails to millions of users during the COVID-19 crisis while rapidly localizing content in 20 languages. To meet this need they partnered with Braze, using the Braze platform and its Connected Content dynamic content tool to scale localized, engaging email communications.

Using Braze, Canva implemented an advanced IP warm-up strategy to grow weekly sends from 30 million to 50 million without sacrificing deliverability, and used Connected Content via the Google Sheets API to automate translations and cut days off localization work. The result: 99% email deliverability, a 33% increase in open rates, a 2.5% lift in platform engagement, and the ability to deploy multi‑language campaigns (20 languages) in under five days — demonstrating Braze’s impact on engagement at scale.
