A Braze Case Study
BlaBlaCar, the French carpooling platform with 65 million users, wanted to improve email engagement and specifically boost open rates by moving beyond intuition to a disciplined testing strategy. To do this it partnered with Braze and used Braze Canvas to design and automate experiments that would reveal which sender-name approaches actually drove opens.
Using Braze Canvas, BlaBlaCar ran A/B tests in France and Russia comparing “BlaBlaCar” vs. first‑person sender names, common vs. rare names, and perceived masculine vs. feminine names. The tests showed first‑person names drove 20%+ higher open rates (with increases up to about 24%), and a popular masculine name performed best in both countries; BlaBlaCar has since adopted the winner in France (‘Julien’) and is rolling the approach out elsewhere. These results came directly from experiments run in Braze, producing clear, measurable improvements in email performance.
