Taggart Global, a leading North American coal preparation and material handling services company, was struggling with a largely paper-based payables process: its three-person AP team handled more than 30,000 vendor invoices a year (about 99% on paper) and 80–100 weekly travel expense reports. Mailing invoices to remote project managers for delivery verification created delays, high shipping costs, heavy manual data entry, poor month-end reporting and frequent late-payment penalties.
Taggart implemented Bottomline’s Transform AP with intelligent OCR, integrating it with their proprietary project management system and Microsoft Dynamics GP to enable automated data capture, workflow-driven approvals and remote PM sign-off. The solution cut unprocessed invoices at month end by 60–80%, reduced invoice processing from about two weeks to several days, lowered mailing and manual-processing costs, improved usability and reporting, and virtually eliminated lost invoices while giving PMs self-service access and AP full control of the payables process.
